Improving the delivery and uptake of e-Sanjeevani for better healthcare services in Sewapuri

eSanjeevani is a telemedicine program of the Indian government that targets the rural population. MSIF’s intervention through digital devices helped boost eSanjeevani’s reach and effectiveness.

The northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh clocked one of the highest numbers of eSanjeevani consultations in recent years. The program has been active in all 34 health and wellness centers in the Sewapuri block in the Varanasi district of the state. Yet it offered room for improvements.

MSIF provided 10 Android tablets for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) to increase the uptake of the initiative and allow ASHAs to provide doorstep services, especially in light of COVID-19. Each household member could now access primary healthcare video consultations and get medicines delivered to their doorstep. The intervention will help in the early identification and treatment of diseases while providing healthcare to people where they are, at a time when people are scared to seek health services outside their homes as they fear the risk of infection.
