The ONORC program allows PDS beneficiaries to pick a ration shop of their choice. MSIF worked to increase awareness of the program among stakeholders.
One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) is a program of the Indian government that provides beneficiaries of food subsidy under the Public Distribution System (PDS) the choice to purchase ration from any authorized fair price shop (FPS) dealer in the country. The project objective was to drive a campaign to enhance the awareness of the program among PDS beneficiaries and FPS dealers.
MSIF ran the campaign in the Ayodhya and Gorakhpur districts in Uttar Pradesh. The intervention increased the awareness of PDS beneficiaries and FPS dealers about ONORC and its benefits, enhanced demand for ONORC among PDS beneficiaries—particularly migrants. It also led to higher readiness among FPS dealers to serve migrants, greater satisfaction among the beneficiaries with the PDS, and higher transactions that implied a higher income for FPS dealers who served beneficiaries who used ONORC.
